4 killed as truck hits auto-rickshaw in Noakhali

Four people were killed as a CNG-run auto-rickshaw fell into a roadside canal after being hit by a truck at Begumganj upazila in Noakhali early Saturday (May 4).

The accident took place in the morning at Chandraganj Purba Bazar on the Noakhali-Lakshmipur regional highway of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Rahmat Ullah Bhuiyan, 65, army personnel Fazlul Karim, 50, and Alauddin, 45, hailed from Lakshipur district. The identity of the other person could not be known.

Chandraganj Highway Police Inspector Ruhul Amin said a CNG-run auto-rickshaw was going towards Begumganj upazila from Lakshmipur with passengers. On the way, a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction collided with the auto-rickshaw in that area. The two vehicles fell into a roadside canal. Four people including auto-rickshaw driver were killed in this connection.

“Rescue operation is still underway. Three bodies have been recovered so far. One body is still in the canal. Details will be briefed in this regard once the rescue operation ends,” the OC added.
