School building washed away before inauguration

A newly constructed three-storied school building eroded away in the River on Friday noon (July 17) at Rajeshwar union of Sadar Upazila in Chandpur.

After completing the construction, contactors handed over the building to the authorities in time. The school-cum-cyclone shelter centre was awaiting inauguration.

Already some parts of the building have been washed away. The whole building would collapse anytime.

Local union parishad member Parvez Gazi Rony said, the school was in risk of river erosion. The building was constructed at the cost of Tk 2.29 crore with the initiatives of Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni.

The river was more than a kilometre away when the school land was selected. But, the river erosion changed everything.
