Ship with 18 crew sinks in Sandwip Channel

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: Lighter vessel “Titu-18” carrying 18 crew sank near Sandwip Channel in the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday noon.

Lt Commander Saiful Islam, Staff Officer (Operations) of Coast Guard East Zone, confirmed the capsize of the lighter vessel.

On information, a rescue ship “Durjoy” is currently on the spot to rescue the sunken lighter vessel. Several crew were rescued alive till filing this report, according to a source at the Coast Guard.

Reason behind the capsize of the lighter vessel could not be known yet, Lt Commander Saiful Islam said.
