Two held over killing monkeys in Madaripur

Police nabbed two persons for their alleged involvement in killing monkeys at Charmugria area under Madaripur sadar upazila.

They were detained conducting drive at Madhyakhagdi village of the upazila on Saturday midnight.

The detainees were known as Shahanaz Begum, wife of Lotu Hawlader of the village, and Aku Hawlader, son of Aziz Hawlader.

At least 16 monkeys were killed applying poisons in the area recently.

Later, Forest Department filed a case in this connection with Madaripur Sadar Police Station. Besides, Madaripur district administration formed a four-member probe body over the incident.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Madaripur Badrul Alam Mollah confirmed the news. He said, “The detainees are being interrogated. Details would be disclosed later.”
