Two ‘terrorists’ killed in Satkhira ‘gunfight’

Two alleged terrorists have been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police.

The gunfight took in bypass road area of Satkhira town early Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Mamunul Islam Dwip, 25, son of Moinul Islam at Munjitpur of Satkhira town, and Saiful Islam Tara, 38, son of Abdus Sabur Sardar at Saihati village under Kaliganj upazila. The duo were members of Chhatra League, student wing of ruling Awami League.

Md Mostafizur Rahman, superintendent of police, said they arrested Dwip and Saiful on Friday over snatching of Tk 26 lakh from a Bkash agent in Kaliganj upazila.

As per their confessional statement, police took the duo to recover arms in Kamalnagar area and when they reached there, associates of the criminals open fired forcing policemen to back fire in self-defence that triggered a gunfight. The two criminals died on the spot.

Two pistols, firearms, one bullet, two knives and a motorbike were recovered from the spot.
