Youth succeeds in cultivating Baby watermelon

A young man, Sourov Chandro Hawlader, at Charpata village under Daulatkhan upazila in Bhola, has succeeded in cultivating Baby watermelon.

Some days ago, he desired to cultivate Baby watermelon in his abandoned land.

Sourov started to cultivate watermelon on experimental basis after receiving training from the agricultural unit of the Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation.

In only seventy days, Baby watermelon fruit began to grow in his field. Sourov became happy seeing watermelon of different colours.

Baby watermelon is so beautiful to look at and more testy to eat. The local people are now crowding the farm.   Watermelons weighting from 2 to 2.5kg have started to ripen. There are five hundred watermelons in his field. Per kg is being sold at Tk 60. 

Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department Binay Krishna Debnath said `Sourov Chandro Hawlader’s initiative has created huge enthusiasm among the local farmers’.
