Auto-rickshaw falls off ferry into river, two bodies recovered

A CNG-run auto-rickshaw slipped off a ferry and plunged into the Meghna River near the Bishnandi-Karikandi ferry terminal in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj early Saturday.
Divers of fire service recovered bodies of two women from the river bed on Saturday evening.
The deceased were identified as Khaleda Begum, 40, at Rasulbagh of Nabinagar upazila in Brahmanbaria, and Farzana Akhter, 19.
Locals rescued two men from the river alive.
The family was reportedly returning to their village home in Nabinagar of Brahmanbaria from Dhaka’s Jatrabari area when the incident occurred.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle fell due to the lack of rear railings or any safety barriers on the ferry. At the time of the incident, the driver and another passenger had disembarked and were standing beside the vehicle.
