Finance ministry confirmed the matter in a press release signed by its public relations officer Gazi Tauhidul Islam on Sunday (September 20).
Onion is partially import-based daily essential goods. The market of onion was unstable few days back also. The crisis became tougher in the 2019-20 fiscal year. The price of onion has increased again recently. Besides, neighboring country India has stopped exporting onion which makes the situation worsen here in Bangladesh.
Earlier, the government had slapped 5pc duty on onion import to protect the interest of local farmers. But, the government has changed the decision considering the overall situation.
