A fire incident took place due to a short circuit in the female residential hall of Noakhali University of Science and Technology (NSTU).

Two students were injured when they tried to exit hall after being panicked over the fire incident.

The incident took place at 3:30am on Thursday (November 14) in room 306 of the Bibi Khadiza Hall. On information, fire service personnel rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.

Meanwhile, the university administration announced the postponement of ongoing term final exams of all departments over the incident.

It is reported that the fire broke out in the electricity meter box on the ground floor of Bibi Khadiza Hall. At that time, the female students evacuated the hall in panic. Due to the smoke, two students fell ill. They were later treated at Noakhali General Hospital.

Students of the hall mentioned: “Students in the hall use various electronic devices like electric ovens, heaters, and induction cookers. Due to the use of these devices, short circuits are occurring in the halls from time to time.”

The two injured students have been kept in the hall after receiving treatment. The electricity department is currently working to restore the connection, and we hope to resume it soon.”
