Int’l research competition: BD MBBS students get 1st prize

Our medical students snatched victory and glorified the nation again when the whole of Bangladesh was at a standstill during the Coronavirus crisis. In the 15th edition of the YES (Young European Scientists) meeting held in Porto, Portugal, a group of 5th year MBBS students of the country took part in a scientific research competition and achieved first prize.

They submitted their work under the category of ‘Public Health & Medical Informatics’. Title of their research paper was ‘Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder Among 2nd to 4th phase MBBS Students of Bangladesh’. Moomtahina Fatima, Alvee Ahsan, Raisa Nawal Mahboob from Mymensingh Medical College and Mostofa Arafat Islam from Chittagong Medical College conducted the study.

Moomtahina Fatima presented the research work at the YES meeting on behalf of the team. Through this scientific program, the Bangladesh team got the opportunity to explain the leadership role of the Bangladesh Government in the management of Autism.

Dr. A.B.M. Kamrul Hasan (Assistant Professor, Head, Dept. Of Endocrinology,  Mymensingh Medical College), Prof. Dr. Fatema Ashraf (Head, Dept. Of Obs. & Gynae, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College) and Prof.Dr. Sharmeen Yasmeen (Head, Dept. of Community Medicine, Bangladesh Medical College, Chairperson, Public Health Foundation, Bangladesh) provided overall support for conducting the study.

YES meeting was held from 17th to 20th September 2020 in the city. This prestigious conference was organized virtually due to the ongoing pandemic.

It is worth mentioning that this group also proved their excellence at International Autism Conference on January 2020 organized by the India Autism Center in India.
