65 JnU students get NST fellowship

A total of 65 students from ten departments of Jagannath University (JnU) have been selected for the National Science and Technology (NST) fellowship in the session of 2020-21.

The Ministry of Science and Technology has given the fellowship to the students for carrying out research.

The information was known from the list published on January 11 on the website of the ministry concerned where a total of 3,249 candidates were selected. Among them, 848 candidates were selected in Applied Science category, 736 candidates in Biology and Medical Science category and 1,665 candidates in Food and Agricultural Science category.

Among the selected candidates, 46 students from Jagannath University were selected in Applied Science category and 19 students selected in Biology and Medical Science category.

The students selected for this fellowship will receive Tk 54,000 as financial support for their research project.

Among the fellowship students selected for Applied Science category, 20 were from the Department of Geography and Environment, 13 from the Department of Chemistry, six from the Department of Statistics, five from the Department of Physics, one from the Department of Mathematics and one from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

In the Biology and Medical Science category, nine students were selected from the Department of Microbiology, six students from the Department of Botany, two students from the Department of Zoology and one student from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology for the fellowship.

It is to be mentioned that the Ministry of Science and Technology has been providing NST fellowship since fiscal year 1977-78 and the fellowship is given to MS, MPhil, PhD level students and researchers studying or researching in public universities or research institutes.
