BAU to set up two more female dormitories

Of the 13 halls in Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), four are for female students.

In the beginning, the number of male students was much higher than the number of female students but in recent times the number of female students has increased comparatively and there is a housing crisis for them.

The university administration is struggling to resolve the housing problem for female students. In the financial year of 2018-19, the work was started on a 4-year 'Advanced Development Project' in BAU where there is a proposal to build two new 10-floor building halls for students.

The halls will be constructed behind the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) at a cost of BDT 102 crore. Each hall will have a capacity of 1200 students. The construction work of the halls will start through tender as soon as it is passed in the parliamentary committee.

According to university sources, at present, about 43 per cent of the total students of the university are female with limited number of seats in the halls.
