IU ragging: Probe body submits report

The probe body, which was formed to investigate the ragging incident by a leader and some activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Islamic University (IU), has submitted its report. 

The report was submitted to HM Ali Hasan, acting registrar of IU, at around 10:00am on Sunday (February 26). 

Probe body member secretary Ali Baddi Khan said, “The report was submitted to the registrar after preparing it through verification.”

Registrar HM Ali Hasan said, “The report was submitted within six working days. We will now send it to the High Court division of the Supreme Court. We will execute the order issued by the Supreme Court.”

Fulpori, a first-year student of the finance and banking department, was reportedly tortured and harassed by Islamic University unit Bangladesh Chhatra League Vice President Shanjida Chowdhury Ontora and her cohorts in a hall on the campus in Kushtia on February 12.

The incident came to light after the victim left the hall and disclosed the matter to her seniors and her family members the next day. 

The victim on February 14 submitted a written complaint to the university proctor, student adviser and the hall provost, demanding punishment for those involved in ragging.

On February 17, the High Court directed Shanjida Chowdhury Ontora and her associate Tabassum to leave the university hall.
