IU ragging: BCL leader among five expelled from hall

The authorities of Deshratna Sheikh Hasina Hall at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia have expelled five BCL activists, who have been accused of torturing a female student.

They have been asked to leave the dormitory by March 1 after cancelling their seats.

The university unit BCL vice-president Sanjida Chowdhury, a student of statistics department, was among the five.

The other expelled students were known as Halima Akhtar Urmi of fine arts, Israt Jahan Mim of law, and Tabassum Islam and Mabia Jahan of finance and banking.

The decision was taken at a meeting attended by Provost Prof Shamsul Haque.

Associate Professor Ahsanul Huq, the convener of the probe committee formed by the hall authorities, confirmed the matter.

He said the action was taken against them as the probe committee formed by the hall administration found the allegations against them true

On February 14, Phulpori, a first-year non-residential student, alleged that BCL activists Sanjida Chowdhury and Tabassum Islam, tortured her on the night for staying at the hall without their ‘permission’.
