Student torture: IU suspends 5 students

The authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia have suspended five of its students, including a leader and four activists of the university unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League for their involvement in torturing a first year female student at dormitory.

The university’s student disciplinary committee took the decision in an emergency meeting on Saturday noon (March 4).

Islamic University proctor Dr Shahadat Azad confirmed the matter.

The suspended students are – IU BCL unit vice-president Shanjida Chowdhury Ontora of statistics department and her associates Tabassum Islam and Maobiya Jahan of the finance and banking department, Halima Khatun Urmi of the fine arts department, and Israt Jahan Mim of the law department of the university.

Earlier on March 1, the High Court ordered the suspension of five female students of IU in line with the investigation report on their involvement in ragging a first-year student.
