14 get life term in murder case in Joypurhat

A court in Joypurhat has sentenced 14 people to life term imprisonment in a case filed for killing a man at Panchbibi upazila of the district in 2003.

Senior Judge of the District and Sessions Judge Court Md Noor Islam delivered the verdict on Thursday (November 9) afternoon.

The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, they will have to suffer one year more imprisonment.

The convicts are all the residents of Harenda village of the upazila. One of the convicts have remained on the flee.

According to the case documents, on the night of July 5, 2003, four brothers along with Bhola Mondal, went to cultivate the land in the field far away from their home with a power tiller, the accused hit Bhola Mondal with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured over previous enmity.

Bhola Mondal was admitted to Upazila Health Complex with serious injuries. He died on the way to Joypurhat Modern District Hospital when his condition deteriorated there.

The victim’s brother Dola Mondal filed a murder case the following day at the Panchbibi Police Station.
