Cop killed as train hits police van in Jamalpur

A constable was killed and another was seriously injured when a commuter train hit a police van in Jamalpur's Sadar upazila early Sunday (December 3).

The deceased was known as Ahsanul Haque, 32, a constable in Jamalpur Sadar police station, hailed from Rajnagar village under Kamalakanda upazila of Netrokona.

Jamalpur Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohabbat Kabir said the Dhaka-bound train hit the police van in Shekher vita rail crossing area around 5:00am, leaving a policeman dead on the spot and injured another one.

The accident occurred as there is no gate barrier or gateman at the level crossing, the OC added.
