Two children drown in Chandpur pond

Two children drowned in a pond of East Kalcho village in Kachua upazila of Chandpur on Saturday (January 13) morning.

The deceased were identified as Abu Sayeed, one and a half years old, son of Yeasin Talukder, and Abrar Hasan, 2, son of Mohin Talukder, residents of East Kalcho village in the upazila. They were cousins.

Locals said the cousins fell into the pond near their house amid heavy fog in the morning. Later, they were spotted floating in the water body and taken to the Kachua Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead.

Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandpur’s Kachua police station, confirmed the news.

A pall of gloom descended on the village following the tragic incident.
