Much progress made to rescue sailors, ship in short time: Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said, “A lot of progress has been made in rescuing the sailors and ship from Somali pirates in a short period of time. Hope we could be able to free them soon.”

However, it is difficult to say the exact date of their rescue, he said.

The foreign minister disclosed the information in response to a question of journalists at a programme in Chattogram around 11:30 am on Wednesday (April 10).

Dr Hasan Mahmud said, “We want to assure the families of the sailors held hostage by Somali pirates that the government is trying its best to rescue them. Firstly, negotiations are ongoing with the abductors through various parties. Secondly, a lot of psychological pressure has been created on them. The sailors are in good health and are in regular contact with their families. So, the concern that was there a few days ago, has almost gone at this moment. We hope we could be able to release them soon.”
