Two children drown in Garai River

Two children drowned in Garai River at Kumarkhali upazila in Kushtia.

The deceased were identified as Shefa, 13, daughter of Shamim Islam and Shahjada, 7, son of Alamgir Hossain. They were cousins.

The incident took place in Zainabad village of Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia around 12:00 pm on Wednesday (April 17).

According to family sources, Shefa and Shahjada went to have a bath in the Garai River near the house but drowned in the water as they did not know how to swim in the water.

Later, the two children were rescued and taken to Kushtia General Hospital by locals but duty doctors declared them dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kumarkhali police station Akibul Islam confirmed the matter.
