One killed as bus’s roof ripped off after crashing into tree

A man was killed and seven others were injured when the roof of a passenger bus was ripped off after being hit by a roadside tree at Shahjadpur upazila in Sirajganj on Monday (April 22).

The accident took place on the Bogura-Nogorbari highway this morning.

The deceased was identified as Al Shamim, son of Rashedul Islam Abu, hailed from Sujanagar upazila of Pabna.

Quoting the eyewitnesses, Hatikumrul Highway Police Station inspector Monirul Islam said a Dhaka-bound bus belonging to C Line left Pabna in the morning. When the vehicle reached Tetiarkandi area, the driver suddenly lost control over the steering and hit a roadside tree. Then the roof of the bus was ripped off.

On information, a team of police rushed to the spot and rescued eight of the injured with the help of local people and sent them to the Shahjadpur Upazila Health Complex where Shamim succumbed to his injuries.

Legal action will be taken in this regard, he added.
