Cargo vessel capsizes in Bay, 12 sailors missing

A cargo vessel, named ‘MV Moumoni’ capsized in the Bay of Bengal in Hatiya of Noakhali district Thursday (April 25) noon.

The incident happened near Islam Char, on the eastern side of Hatiya upazila. 

Hatiya river police in-charge Md Mehedi Zaman confirmed that 12 sailors of the vessel went missing till filing this report on Thursday afternoon.

The sailors sought help calling on 999 while their vessel was sinking. Members of coast guard of naval police went there to rescue the cargo vessel's sailors amid strong current of the sea, he said.
