Training aircraft crash in Chattogram: Pilot succumbs to injury

A pilot of Bangladesh Air Force YAK-130, who has been undergoing treatment at BNF Isha Khan Hospital after being injured in a crash, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday (May 9).

The deceased was known as - Squadron leader of the Air Force Asim Jawad. The injured co-pilot is Wing Commander of the Air Force Sohan.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Port) Shakila Sultana said that the pilot and the co-pilot ejected safely via parachute and fell into the water and were rescued by local boats. Later, they were taken to navy hospital where Asim Jawad died under treatment around 12:30pm.

Earlier, a training aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force (YAK130) crashed into the Karnaphuli River around 10:30am.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said a training aircraft (YAK 130) of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed at Patenga in Chattogram due to a technical glitch.
