40 dead animals found in Sundarbans

The forest department officials on Tuesday said that so far, they found 40 dead animals in the Sundarbans after the severe cyclone Remal that hit the forest on Sunday.

Mihir Kumar De, Khulna circle conservator of forest said that they found 39 dead deer and a pig in the forest. Besides, 17 deer were rescued alive.

More than 100 water reservoirs were flooded due to the cyclone. Meanwhile, more than 70 jetty were damaged.

Primarily the authorities have estimated infrastructural damage of Tk 6.27 crore in the forest while the total damage, including animals and plants, could not be calculated yet.

Satkhira Range Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) AKM Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury said we were well prepared regarding the impact of the cyclone. That’s why no major damage took place. However, there has been some damage to the infrastructure.
