Surma River flowing above danger level

Due to heavy rains in India’s Cherrapunji and hill slopes, the water level in the Surma river and other rivers of Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj has reached danger level.

According to Water Development Board, the water level of the Surma River has increased 54cm. At the Chhatak point, the Surma River was flowing 8cm above the danger level at around 9:00am on Saturday.

The water level in Sunamganj’s rivers has continued to increase due to heavy rain.  Floods may occur in Sunamganj if rainfall continues. 

According to Water Development Board, 75mm of rain was recorded in Sunamganj in the past 24 hours.

513 mm of rain was recorded in India’s Cherrapunji in the past 24 hours.
