All rivers in Sylhet flowing above danger level

Due to heavy rainfall and hill slopes, water level of all rivers in Sylhet is flowing above the danger level.

As a result, low-lying areas of all upazilas of the district have already been flooded.

The Surma river is flowing above the danger level at Kanaighat and Sylhet points at around 9:00am on Tuesday (June 18).

The Kushiara river is flowing above the danger level at Alamshid and Fenchuganj points. The Sari and Goain rivers are also flowing above the danger level.

Gowainghat Upazila UNO Md Towhidul Islam said due to heavy rainfall and hill slopes, all unions of the upazila have been flooded. A total of 56 shelters have opened, and flood-hit people have been asked to take shelter there.

Companiganj UNO Sanjit Kumar Das said due to heavy rainfall in India’s Cherrapunji and hill slopes, all rivers are flowing above the danger level.

Shah Md Sajib Hossain of Sylhet Met office, heavy rainfall is occurring in Sylhet region. 44mm of rain was recorded in three hours of Tuesday morning.  About 153 mm of rain was recorded in the past 24 hours. More rainfall may occur in next 72 hours.
