Boat capsize in Teesta river: Child found dead, 6 missing

The body of a child has been recovered over the boat capsize in Teesta river in Sadua Damarhat area of Bazra union under Ulipur upazila of Kurigram.

Six people have still remained missing in this connection.

The deceased child could not be identified immediately.

Locals said the boat carrying 25 wedding guests capsized due to the heavy tides in Teesta river in Sadua Damarhat area yesterday evening.

18 people managed to swim to the shore but seven others went missing.

Deputy Commissioner Saidul Arif said the boat capsized due to heavy tides in the river. On information, members of the fire service rushed to the spot and launched a search operation lasted for 2am. At one stage of the search operation, a child was found dead.

The search operation resumed again in the morning to find out the remaining missing people, he said.
