Teesta, Dharla flowing above danger level

The Teesta and Dharla are flowing above danger level, inundating many areas of Kurigram district.

Water level of 16 rivers including Dudhkumar and Brahmaputra has increased. About 10,000 families have been marooned in the district.

According to Water Development Board, the Dharla river was flowing 5cm above the red mark at Shimulbari point and Teesta river was flowing 55cm above the danger level at Kaunia point, flooding fresh areas in the region.

The communication system in these areas collapsed, causing misery to residents.

Various unpaved roads went underwater and many were seen commuting home on rafts of banana trees.

Almonds, jute, corn, pepper, other vegetable fields and various emerging crops have been submerged.
