6 to die for double murder in Cumilla

A Cumilla court has sentenced six people to death and seven others to life imprisonment in a case filed for killing two people over a land dispute.

Cumilla Additional District and Session Judge Md Jahangir Hossain handed down the verdict on Monday (July 15).

The court also fined them Tk 50,000, each.

The death-row convicts are—Tofayel Ahmed Tota, Kamal Hossain, Md Mamun, Alamgir Hossain, Babul and Harunur Rashid.

The lifers are—Haidar Ali, Abdul Mannan, Jamal Hossain, Abul Bashar, Jakir Hossain, Abdul Quader and Abdul Kuddus.

State prosecutor Md Jahirul Islam Selim confirmed the information.

According to the prosecution, on August 12, 2016, the convicts killed Gias Uddin and Jamal Hossain of Dhanaitori in Sadar Dakkhin upazila of the district over land dispute.
 
Gias Uddin’s son Mehedi Hasan filed a case against 17 including unidentified people with Sadar Dakkhin Police Station.
 
Meanwhile, police submitted chargesheet against 15 people on August 20, 2017.
