Indian Coast Guard seizes two Bangladeshi vessels with 79 sailors

The Indian Coast Guard has reportedly seized two Bangladeshi fishing vessels with 79 sailors from the Bangladesh maritime boundary.

The seized vessels are FV Meghna-5, owned by C&A Agro Limited of Chattogram, and FV Laila-2, owned by SR Fishing. 

The vessels were seized on Monday from the Hiron Point area of Khulna and are being taken towards the Odisha coast of India.

Ansarul Haque, Manager (Operations) of C&A Agro Limited that owns the fishing vessel FV Meghna-5, said on Tuesday (December 10) afternoon, “The sailors contacted us and informed us about the matter. We have informed the Department of Marine Fisheries. The two vessels are being taken towards the Odisha coast of India”.

There are 37 people including crews and fishermen in FV Meghna-5 on board while 42 on FV Laila-2. 
Commodore Mohammad Maqsud Alam, Managing Director of the Department of Shipping, said, “The two vessels were seized near Indian waters. The Bangladesh Coast Guard and other government agencies are in touch with Indian authorities, and we are closely monitoring the situation.”
