Mother, daughter killed as truck hits auto-rickshaw in Kurigram

A woman and her daughter were tragically killed and three others injured after a truck collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram district on Wednesday (December 11).

The deceased were identified as Momena Begum, 55, wife of Mohammad Ali, and her daughter Munni Akhter, 25, residents of Mahiganj-Chandonia village of the upazila.

Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhurungamari Police Station Monirul Islam said the accident took place when a truck collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw in Ghuntighar area on the Sonahat Landport road at noon, leaving five auto-rickshaw passengers critically injured.

The injured were sent to Bhurungamari Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctor declared Munni dead.

Later, Momena Begum also succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
