Man commits suicide after poisoning 2 children to death

A man allegedly committed suicide after poisoning to death his two minor daughters following a family feud in Habiganj’s Chunarughat in the early hours of Friday (February 14).

The victims were identified as Abdur Rouf, a resident of Atikpur village under Ranigaon union in the upazila, and his two daughters Khadija Aktar, 5, and Ayesha Aktar, 3.

According to police and locals, there had been a longstanding family conflict between Abdur Rouf and his wife Hafija. They locked into a quarrel even yesterday night. At one stage, she along with one of their three children left the home. Following the quarrel, Abdur Rouf poisoned two daughters and consumed poison himself, resulting in the deaths of trio.

Later, they were rushed to Habiganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared the two children dead and the man died around 10:30am while undergoing treatment.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (Madhabpur-Chunarughat Circle) AKM Salimul Haque confirmed the incident.
