3 robbers lynched in Shariatpur: 2 cases filed

Two cases have been filed in connection with an attempted robbery in Tetulia area of Domsar union under Shariatpur sadar.

Sub-Inspector Alamgir Hossain of Palong Model Police Station filed the cases -- one for attempted robbery, and the other over illegal weapons on Saturday night (March 1).

Five suspected robbers injured in the mob beating have been named in the cases. Another seven to eight unidentified people have also been made accused.

Police and local sources said that a group of organized robbers attempted to rob a bulkhead on the Kirtinasha River in Rajachar area of Kalkini, Madaripur. On information, locals chased them. The robbers then fired blank shots. Masum Mia (30) of Bhandaria, Pirojpur, and Alamin Fakir (19) of Kalikathi, Pirojpur, both workers of the bulkhead, were injured in the firing.

At one stage, locals managed to caught the suspected robbers and lynched eight people of whom two died on the spot. Later, another injured died under treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
