6 of a family burnt in explosion from gas leak in Chandpur

Six members of a family sustained burn injuries during an explosion allegedly triggered by a gas leak at a house in Koralia area of Chandpur.

Four of them are being brought to Dhaka as their condition is critical.

The incident took early Sunday (March 9).

The burnt people are tenant Abdur Rahman, 60; his wife Shahnaj Begum, 55; their son Imam Hossain Sardar, 35; daughter-in-law Khadiza Begum, 25; Mohin Sardar, 16 and Nusrat Jahan Niva, 22, wife of Miraj.

According to locals, the incident took place on the fourth floor of a six-storey building in Koralia area early in the morning. When a gas stove was lit to heat food for Sehri, it exploded with a bang and caught fire, leaving six people burnt.

Being informed, neighbours went to control the blaze and admitted the burned people to a hospital after they were rescued.

Mahmudul Hossain Sumon, a physician at the emergency department of Chandpur Sadar Hospital, said, “Six people were admitted with burn injuries. However, four of them have been sent to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka as their condition is critical.”
