Four get life term for raping girl in Bandarban

A court in Bandarban awarded life term imprisonment to four persons for the gang rape in the district.

Bandarban Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Jebunnahar Aysha passed the order on Sunday (March 9).

The convicts are – Md Rashed, 23, Md Kaysar, 22, Omor Faruk, 18, and Md Hanif, 24.

The court also fined them Tk1 lakh, in default of which they will have to serve six more months in jail.

According to the case statement, the girl met Rashed on the phone through a wrong number. Then, they developed a romantic relationship. On February 2, 2021, Rashed asked the girl to come to the Padua Bazar area alluring her to marry. Later, Rashed and his friends raped the girl in Bhaggakul area of Bandarban.

Mohammad Ismail, public prosecutor of the court said that as the charges were proven, the judge sentenced the accused to life imprisonment.
