A court in Jashore has acquitted BNP Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman in a sedition case.

District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam passed the judgement on Monday (March 10) noon.

Jashore Public Prosecutor (PP) Syed Saberul Haque Sabu confirmed the information.

Syed Saberul Haque Sabu said as the plaintiff, Jashore District Awami League Organizing Secretary and UP Chairman SM Afzal Hossain filed the sedition case against Tarique Rahman in the Jashore Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court on January 22, 2015.

He claimed in the case that Tarique Rahman had insulted Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from London.

Syed Saberul Haque Sabu stated that the investigation officer of the case, Sheikh Gani Mia, who was the Police Inspector (Investigation) at Jashore Kotwali Police Station at that time, submitted the charge sheet to the court on April 21, 2015.

He also said, “The judge acquitted Tarique Rahman today as the charges brought against him were not proved in the case that has been going on for 9 years.”
