Workers block Dhaka-Mymensingh highway demanding Eid bonus

Ready Made Garment workers blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway demanding Eid bonuses on Friday morning (March 14).

Police and local sources said that around 300 workers of ‘Smoke Sweater’ initially staged a protest program around 9:00am. Later, they blocked the highway in Telipara area under Basan Thana of Gazipur metropolitan.

Following the strike, traffic movement on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway is suspended. Drivers and passengers of various transport vehicles traveling on the route are suffering heavily due to the blockade.

Kaysar Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Basan police station said that the highway is currently closed. We are trying to resolve the issue by contacting both the owners and workers.
