Man killed, daughter loses leg as bus hits bike in Rajshahi

A man was killed, and his daughter lost one of her legs, and pregnant wife injured when a bus hit a motorcycle carrying them in Rajshahi's Bagha upazila on Monday (May 19).

The victim was known as Jahedul Islam Shanto, 27. His daughter Umme Turaifa Khatun, 5, and his pregnant wife Jesmin Akter, 24, received serious injuries.

Local sources said Jahedul Islam was on his way to drop his daughter Turaifa off at the school in Bagha Upazila of Rajshahi on a motorcycle on Monday morning. His wife Jasmine was with him. Meanwhile, a Dhaka-bound passenger bus, rammed their motorcycle, leaving the three people injured critically.

Later, they were sent to Bagha upazila health complex and shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where Jahedul died under treatment.

Bagha police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AFM Asadujjaman said the bus driver and helper fled the scene after the accident.
