BGB foil BSF’s attempt to push-ins in, tension at Kurigram border

Tension has erupted between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) following an incident involving the attempted push-in of 14 individuals in Rowmari upazila of Kurigram.

The incident took place in 1067 pillar of Boraibari border around 4:30am on Tuesday (May 27).

Currently, the nine men and five women who attempted to enter in Bangladesh territory, are staying at the zero line.

Local sources said BSF attempted to illegally push in the individuals through the border around 4:00 am. Upon noticing the attempt, BGB personnel intervened, leading to heightened tension between the two border forces.

Later, the BGB called for a flag meeting in response, the BSF reportedly did not respond.

Nurul Haque, a dweller of Rowmari area said that the BSF was pushing some people from India to Bangladesh. Meanwhile, the BGB prevented them. Centering the issue, the BSF tried to create panic by exploding some cocktails around 6 am.

Acting Adjutant and Assistant Director of the Jamalpur Battalion-35 BGB, Shamsul Haque, said that the higher authorities are at the scene. Further action will be taken as per their decision.
