A low-pressure area has formed over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions. Due to its influence, Patuakhali has been experiencing intermittent moderate rain for the past two days. However, it has been drizzling since early Wednesday (May 28).

Earlier, the District Met Office recorded 29.6 millimeters of rainfall in the district from 9 am on Tuesday to 9 am on Wednesday.

Since morning, the weather in Patuakhali has been rough, with an overcast sky and intermittent light to moderate rain. The sea has become rough due to low-pressure system, prompting tourist police, lifeguards and beach workers to discourage tourists from swimming in the sea.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has advised four sea ports of Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Mongla and Payra to hoist local warning signal no. 3.

Additionally, fishing boats and trawlers in the Bay of Bengal have been advised to proceed with caution and remain close to the coast.

Mahbuba Sukhi, an official at the Patuakhali district weather office, confirmed the development.
