Heavy rainfall inundates most low-lying areas of Chattogram

Incessant heavy rain since Thursday night caused by ‘deep depression’ has inundated several low-lying areas of Chattogram city.

There is also a risk of landslides due to continuous rainfall.

Meanwhile, the sea is rough due to the inclement weather conditions. The unloading of goods from mother vessels to lighter ships at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port is also suspended.

Ismail Bhuiyan, an officer at the Patenga Meteorological Department in Chattogram on Friday (May 30) said that the port city has recorded 192 millimeters of rain in the last 24 hours. Maritime ports have been asked to hoist local warning signal number 3 and river ports have been asked to follow signal number 2.

On the other hand, at least two lighter vessels lost control due to the heave waves of sea water and stuck on the rocks off the coast of Patenga breaking their anchors.
