Trawler capsizes in Meghna, one body recovered, 5 missing

A trawler carrying 39 passengers has capsized in the Meghna River near Hatiya upazila of Noakhali district.
The incident took place at around 3:00pm on Saturday (May 31).
The trawler was going to Noakhali from Bhasan Char.
A total of 33 people have been rescued alive, one dead has recovered but 5 individuals iare still missing.
Officer-in-Charge of Bhasan Char Thana Md Kutub Uddin and Officer-in-Charge of Hatiya Thana AKM Ajmal Huda confirmed the news.
According to police, the trawler was carrying a total of 39 passengers including 4 policemen, a Rohingya patient, several Ansar members and NGO people.
Due to stormy weather and high waves in the river, the trawler hit a submerged sandbar and capsized.
Coast Guard members are conducting a rescue operation.
