4 of same family killed in Sylhet landslide

Four members of a family, including two children, were killed in a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in Sylhet’s Golapganj upazila early Sunday (June 1).
A rescue team involving fire service, army and police recovered the bodies around 5:30 am.
The deceased were identified as Riyaz Uddin, 50, his wife Rahima Begum, their daughter Samia Khatun, 15, and son Abbas Uddin, 13. Rahima Begum still remained missing.
Locals said the incident happened around 2:00 am at Bakhtiarghat area under Lakshanabandh union in the upazila, when a portion of a hill collapsed onto a house, burying its residents under debris.
Golapganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Foysal Mahmud Fuad confirmed the fatalities and said the bodies were recovered around 5:30 am by rescue teams comprising fire service personnel, the army, and local administration.
