Police officer among 2 killed in 6 vehicles crash in Gopalganj

Two people, including a police officer, were killed and at least 20 others injured in a head-on collision among six vehicles in Gopinathpur area of Gopalganj early Sunday (June 15).
The accident happened around 2:30 am on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Gopalganj Sadar upazila. Six vehicles involved four buses, a truck and a private car.
The deceased were identified as Rafiquzzaman, an ATSI of Bhatiapara Highway Police, and Selim Hossain Bepari, son of Abdul Hamid Bepari and the helper of Arman Paribahan bus.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Mir Md. Sajedur Rahman confirmed the news.
The OC said that a Khulna-bound bus belonging to ‘Arman Paribahan’, which had departed from Dhaka, struck a truck from behind upon reaching Gopinathpur, causing significant damage to the bus. While passengers were being rescued, three more buses and a private car collided at the same spot in a chain-reaction crash that lasted from 2:30 am to 3:30 am.
On information, police, army personnel, and fire service teams arrived at the spot and rescued the injured, who were sent to Gopalganj General Hospital.
Traffic on the Dhaka-Khulna highway resumed two hours later after the damaged vehicles were removed from the road, the OC added.
