Prime accused among 5 arrested for raping woman in Muradnagar

Police have arrested five people, including the prime accused, in connection with the rape of an expatriate’s wife in Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla and the circulation of a video of the victim on social media.
Cumilla Superintendent of Police Nazir Ahmed Khan confirmed the information on Sunday (June 29) morning.
The prime suspect, Fazor Ali, 38, was arrested from Dhaka’s Sayedabad area around 5:00 am on Sunday and other accused were arrested for their alleged involvement in filming the victim after the assault and sharing the footage online.
Other accused are Md Sumon, Ramjan Ali, Md Arif and Md Anik. All of them are from Cumilla’s Muradnagar.
Fazor Ali, a resident of Ramchandrapur Pachkitta village in Muradnagar, was caught and beaten by locals on the night of 26 June after allegedly raping the wife of a Dubai expatriate. He later escaped while some individuals at the scene filmed the victim and circulated the video on social platforms.
Following the incident, Muradnagar police visited the spot and took legal steps. A case was filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act based on the victim’s written complaint.
According to the case statements, the woman had gone to her father’s house with her children about 15 days earlier. Around 10:00 pm on Thursday, Fazor Ali came to the house and asked her to open the door. When she refused, he broke in and raped her, the complaint said.
