Patuakhali continued to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall due to the active southwest monsoon.
The District Met Office recorded 120 millimeters of rainfall in the district in the 24 hours starting from 9 am on Saturday to 9 am on Sunday (July 6).
Under the influence of an active monsoon, the Bay of Bengal near Kuakata has become rough, with large waves crashing onto the seashore.
According to the met office, due to active monsoon winds, there is a significant pressure difference prevailing over the North Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, squally or gusty winds may sweep over the North Bay of Bengal, the coastal areas of Bangladesh, and its seaports.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has advised four sea ports of Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Mongla and Payra to hoist local warning signal no. 3.
Additionally, fishing boats and trawlers in the Bay of Bengal have been advised to proceed with caution and remain close to the coast.
Mahbuba Sukhi, an official at the Patuakhali district weather office said, “Rainfall may increase further. Squally winds could blow across coastal areas.”
