Former Juba Dal leader found dead hour after police raid

The body of a former Juba Dal leader named Amjad Hossain, 52, was found in a field adjacent to his house early Sunday.

The body was recovered at around 5:00am from Mridhakanda area of Nawabganj in Dhaka.

Earlier police raided his house to arrest him. He was the former general secretary of the upazila unit of Juba Dal.

According to police and locals,   police went to the house of Amjad Hossain to arrest him at 4am as he was facing a warrant in a cheque forgery case.  When no one opened the door, the team returned without making an arrest.

Amjad was found with unconscious condition near a paddy field. He was immediately taken to Upazila Health Complex, where duty doctors declared him dead. Shortly afterward, locals informed police of Amjad's death over the phone.

Family members claimed to have noticed injury marks on his face and around his eyes.

Nawabganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mominul Islam said the body was sent to hospital for autopsy. We need to wait for the autopsy report to determine the cause of death, said the OC.
