Covered van hits auto-rickshaw in Gazipur, 4 killed

At least four people have been killed as a CNG-run auto-rickshaw hit a covered van in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur.
The accident occurred in the Barachala area of the upazila on Friday (July 18) afternoon.
One of the deceased was identified as Md. Jahidul Islam (35), son of Sabed Ali Pramanik at Ishwarghat village in Dhunat upazila of Bogura.
The identities of the others were not found yet.

Eyewitnesses and police said a covered van was heading towards Mawna in Sreepur upazila on the Kaliakoir-Mawna regional road. In the Barachala area, the covered van hit the CNG-run auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction.
Two passengers died on the spot. Three passengers of the auto-rickshaw were injured. Locals quickly rescued the victims and took them to the Kaliakoir Upazila Health Complex. Two more died there.
Kaliakoir Police Station OC Abdul Mannan said, “Four people died in the accident. Among the deceased, three are men and one is a woman. Work is underway to identify the three deceased.”
The covered van has been seized, and a legal action is under process, police added.
