5 die after consuming toxic liquor in Khulna

At least five people have died after consuming suspected spurious liquor in Boyra Pujakhola area of Khulna city.
A person has become serious ill, and has been admitted to a hospital.
The incident took place on Saturday afternoon (July 19).
The deceased are SM Afroz Babu (50), Sabu (60), Gautam Kumar Biswas (47), Ajibar (59) and Tota (60). Of these, Tota was a resident of Barishal. The rest are residents of Boyra Pujakhola Islamia College More and Khalishpur areas.
Sonadanga Model Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Hai said, “Six people consumed alcohol together at Tota Mia's shop on Saturday afternoon. When all of them fell ill due to alcohol consumption, they were rescued and taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Duty doctors declared five dead there. One person named Sonu has been kept on life support at Khulna Specialized Hospital. Senior police officials visited the scene immediately after the incident."
A police source said that the five people who died are believed to have consumed homemade alcohol.
