Staff Correspondent, Chittagong: The elderly woman and her granddaughter who were severely burnt in a fire following an explosion at their kitchen in Chittagong have died.
Seventy-year old Samuda Khatun and her granddaughter 'Ifti', 17, died early Saturday while undergoing treatment at the burn unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Ifti's brother 'Arif', 26, who also burnt in the fire, is undergoing treatment.
They were seriously injured when the second floor of a six-storey building at Dewan Bazar in the port city's Bakalia caught fire following the explosion early in the morning on Friday.
Gas leaking in the kitchen from an unlocked stove has caused the fire and explosion, police confirmed.
